Proposed Installation of Donated Flagpole for the American Flag.
Dear Residents,
Dancing Willows resident and Navy veteran, Bill Anderson has generously offered to donate a flagpole for the American flag for installation within a shared public space in the Dancing Willows community (e.g., the Bowles community entrance or within the roundabout circle). Mr. Anderson would pay for 100% of the material, shipping, and installation costs of the proposed flagpole and American flag.
The all-aluminum flagpole would be 30 ft. in height with an internal halyard system, so there would be no noise from ropes on windy days. The flagpole would only be used to fly a 5’x8’ foot American flag. There would also be a solar-powered light on top of the pole shining directly down to the flag. Beyond replacing the flag when it becomes tattered, there would be little to no maintenance for the DW community.
A few facts regarding maintenance:
A cotton or nylon flag generally lasts about 90 days and those made of polyester generally last anywhere from 6 months to 2 years depending on weather conditions.
A halyard can also be made of various materials, those made of polyester also last a bit longer and should hold up for a few seasons. Considering the halyard would be housed inside of the pole itself, they are expected to last several seasons.
Before moving forward, the Dancing Willows Metro Board would like to gather input from residents regarding this proposal.
